On the Road Again

In a few minutes, Claire and I will be taking off for Colorado where I've got a couple of speaking engagements the next few days -- one in Colorado Springs and another in Woodland Park. However, Claire is bringing along her laptop so I'll be trying to keep up on my blogging chores too. Among the topics, of course, will be the President's nomination to the "Supremes." As of this early morning hour, Drudge and others are silent but one source is reporting Samuel Alito is the pick.

Porky Politicians Hit a New Low

For 30 years, reporter John Stossel has given Americans the "straight skinny" about hucksters, con men and frauds. He has boldly exposed those parasites who live only to feed off the hard earned dollars of the rest of us.

Well, in this column, Mr. Stossel directs his aim at the most successful rip-off artists of all. It is a piece you don't want to miss.

And, to help encourage you to immediately register your complaint (before you cool down) about the "Bridges to Nowhere" and other ridiculous political frauds, here's a couple of terrific links. Note that they both come from Taxpayers for Common Sense, a very nifty site where you can keep tabs on the worst of government waste and fraud.

The first TCS link to utilize takes you to the roll call on the Coburn Amendment so you can see where your respective representatives voted on. The second connects you to a full slate of appropriate addresses for your response.

Life Ad Infinitum

"It’s not really a matter of living forever, it’s just a matter of not wanting to die."

This from Cambridge University researcher Aubrey de Grey who is publicizing his belief that human immortality is just around the corner...well, 25 years or so.

De Grey directs the Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence (SENS) project, in which he has defined seven causes of aging, all of which he thinks will be completely overcome soon. Furthermore, eternal youthfulness will be enjoyed. De Grey says people will be able to live in a splendid balance of the life force as if they were 20-25 years of age.

Of course, De Grey's hopes to defeat death are sheer fantasy.

Science, which is merely the study of God's creation, cannot be used as a weapon against His purposes. And it is God that has decreed, "It is appointed unto men once to die, and then the judgment." (Hebrews 9:27) No one escapes.

However, man can conquer death through resurrection. And that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, accepting the sacrifice for sin He provided by dying in our place on the cross. Man's hope for eternal life cannot be found in a mythical Fountain of Youth but rather in the singular sacrifice of Jesus. "But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water which I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:14)

Michelangelo wisely wrote, "Death destroys a man, but the idea of death saves him." The great Christian artist understood that the inescapable reality of death was the motivation to effectively prepare for it; specifically, by receiving Christ's atoning sacrifice in man's behalf. Jesus said "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die..." (John 11:26).

No matter what the "Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence" attempt to do about it, death will come to Aubrey De Grey...and to you and me. Therefore, instead of wishful thinking, science fiction, whistling through the graveyard, or any other distractions, men must first face the irreducible fact of death, and then make sure of one's salvation from death through the triumph of Christ's resurrection.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you..." (1 Peter 1:3-4).

On the Death of Pro-Life Champion Wellington Mara

Clicking on the title of the above post will take you to the brief Wellington Mara obituary from the New York Giants official web site.

In addition, I thought you would like to read the comments from Life Athletes, including those from Chris Godfrey, former New York Giant player and founder of LA:

Good bye, dear friend

We lost a good friend with the passing of Wellington Mara. He is best known for his role as co-owner of the New York Giants, and his pioneering efforts in establishing the National Football League. But his most important role was fathering eleven children and at last count, 40 grandchildren. But he was a spiritual father to countless more, if it weren't for his careful "fathering" we simply would not be who we are today.

Chris Godfrey had this to say, "In a cynical world that seems to know the cost of everything, and the value of nothing, Wellington Mara helped us appreciate the important things, namely faith, family, friends, and life itself."

This is the timeless lesson that we, in turn, pass on to the next generation. We will miss him deeply... Please remember him and his family in your prayers.

Here too are comments from Family Research Council:

Known affectionately as "The Duke," Pro-Football Hall of Famer Wellington Mara died this week of cancer at age 89. Co- owner of the New York Giants, Mara was also a giant pro-lifer. He not only generously contributed to pro-life groups, he also encouraged his football players to join Athletes for Life and many did.

"My father still knew every player on the team and his time in the 40-yard dash," said John Mara, Wellington's son and the team's chief operating officer. Wellington Mara may have gotten practice managing the Giants' dining table by presiding over family dinners. His son John was the oldest of eleven Mara children.

It was especially notable that Wellington Mara stood up for the right to life in New York, New York. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. We honor his memory and we pray that God will comfort the Mara family.

Abortion & Church History

Abortion advocates frequently argue that the pro-life convictions expressed by Catholic and evangelical Christians are of relatively recent origin and are more of an outgrowth of conservative politics than theology.

But the record clearly shows something different.

Danforth's Dementia

Burn me once -- John Danforth's New York Times article of last June in which he criticized religious conservatives for messin' up the Republican Party.

Burn me twice -- John Danforth complains again yesterday about those trouble-making Christians who ought to stay in church and pray while folks like himself (a moderate, enlightened, Episcopalian priest) handle such grown up tasks as governing the country.

During a visit to the Bill Clinton School of Public Service yesterday, Danforth whined, "I think that the Republican Party fairly recently has been taken over by the Christian conservatives, by the Christian right....I don't think that this is a permanent condition but I think this has happened, and that it's divisive for the country."

He also said the evangelical Christian influence would be bad for the party in the long run. Apparantly, Danforth sees a rosier future for the G.O.P. in the likes of Arlen Specter, Michael Bloomberg, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Log Cabin Republicans.

Will somebody please check Mr. Danforth's meds?

The Killing of "Wrong" Sex Babies

Nine years of "studying" the ethics of sex selection abortion -- and they still didn't get it right? Here's the Guardian Unlimited (U.K.) story on the Texas fertility clinic which will now engage in sex selection abortion.

(Note the connection to Baylor University, the Big 12 school formerly proud of its Baptist heritage.) Sigh.

Is Your Congressman "True Blue"?

The Family Research Council last week gave its "True Blue" Awards to 69 Members of Congress whose voting records this year reflect an A+ on issues of importance to the American family.

"These Members are to be commended for supporting public policy that values human life, protects our religious liberties, and upholds the institutions of marriage and the family," said Tony Perkins, President of Family Research Council.

"I applaud these Members for pursuing the mandate given by the values voters in the last election. Values voters should be encouraged by these Members who have shown a commitment to protect and strengthen the family."

On a lighter note, FRC issued its first "Black & Blue Awards" to those Members of Congress who voted 0% on pro-family issues. Dishonorable mentions were in order for two members who excelled in disservice to the strengthening of families, faith and freedom.

Congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA) received the "Abstinence of Thought" award for his brilliantly composed abstinence report which abstained from providing any facts or positive research to substantiate his claims.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) received the "Un-Intelligent Design" award for being a longtime proponent of removing faith from the public square, prayer from public schools and intelligent design from academic studies. However, Rep. Pelosi never fails to accept the Supreme Court's wisdom as though "God has spoken" when rendering a decision derived unconstitutionally.

The full Family Research Council report (in PDF form) is right here.

Is Europe Dying?

Quint Coppi alerted me to this fine article by George Weigel and I gladly pass it on to you. It examines the critical de-population problem in Europe from both a historical and a philosophical perspective. It is a very thorough piece so I'd advise you to print it off and take a little time with it. But trust me (and Quint!); it is well worth it.

On Leading Seekers to Faith in Jesus Christ

There is nothing in life quite comparable to the thrill, the gratitude and the overwhelming humility one experiences when he or she is blessed to lead someone to Jesus Christ.

Last night I spoke to a group of about 25 high school students in a packed basement in Blair, Nebraska. It was a meeting of Student Venture, the high school outreach of Campus Crusade for Christ, and this particular chapter is directed by Gary Warrick, an old and trusted friend. I have spoken to his gatherings over the years and have always been honored and pleased at seeing God work in the lives of these young people and their adult sponsors.

But last night truly was special with five students being bold enough to publicly acknowledge their desire to receive Christ as their personal Savior.

While the other students were on their knees praying, these five came upstairs with me. I explained again what it is to become a Christian -- simply to trust in the sacrifice Jesus had made on the cross when He died for our sins. Rather than relying on one's own good works, or basic "goodness," or religious affiliation, or anything else, one must take advantage of the sacrifice Jesus provided.

Said Jesus, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but by Me."

Forgiveness of sin, the guarantee of heaven, the adoption as an honored son or daughter of God, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and so much more -- these are all immediate and supernatural benefits of simply (but honestly) seeing Jesus on the cross and saying, "Yes. I understand You died in my place. You paid my debt. I believe in You and trust You. And I humbly receive the gift of salvation You purchased with Your blood."

After quickly reviewing these splendid truths which I had emphasized in my sermon downstairs earlier, I then led these precious five kids in prayer and from everything we can now see, these five young people became Christians last night. They started on that incredible spiritual adventure that leads to the full triumph of Christ over meaninglessness, sin, and even death itself. It doesn't get any better than this.

I entreat readers of Vital Signs Blog to say a quick prayer for these kids even as you say one for many more chances of this kind to come our way as Claire, myself and the whole team of Vital Signs Ministries "LifeSharers" keep holding high the banner of Christ.

And, yes; please say just one more for Gary Warrick and his remarkable ministry which reaches out to the students of Blair and several other communities. Gary is in the process of trying to increase his meager support and he could really use any spiritual (and financial) assistance we can provide. He is a genuine champion whose service to Christ has been marked by integrity, compassion and hard work all the 35 years I've known him.

If you're interested in finding out more about his ministry or inviting him to address your church or Sunday School class, please contact him here -- gwarrick@studentventure.com

Thanks.

Dirty Money Scandal? This One's Not DeLay; It's the Democrats

Here's a brief item on what to the MSM ("mainstream media") is a complete non-story; namely the Democratic Congessional Campaign Committee refusing to return dirty money obtained via Frank Ballance, a former North Carolina Democrat Congressman whose constituency is now his prison cellmates.

Clinton Library to Be Visited by Victims of His Sexual Harassment

Tomorrow, two women who have an intense interest in the man so irrationally glorified there will visit the Clinton Library in Little Rock. And they hope their attendance at the site will help publicize the real Bill Clinton and thus serve to better empower women who are victims of sexual harassment and assault by powerful perpetrators.

And these women well know of what (and whom) they speak. They are Juanita Broaddrick and Kathleen Willey, both victims of Bill Clinton's perverted and egocentric lusts. From Front Page Magazine, here's the story on the women's visit.

Islam Advances...Into the White House?

In one of those mushy-headed moments that President Bush seems to be giving us a lot of lately, he is pleased to announce the Koran has now been placed into the official White House library. Apparantly, it is another of the Chief Executive's faith-based moves but, like several of them, enacted without careful consideration of what the particular "faith base" is.

By clicking on the title of this post, you'll zip over to Diana West's penetrating column on this silly (and ultimately dangerous) publicity ploy.

The Baby Boomers & Euthanasia

The wise watchman on the wall, Chuck Colson, describes how the pampered lifestyles of the baby boomers has created an absolute intolerance for suffering of any kind; thus creating a dramatic new momentum for euthanasia.

"Doc" Coburn vs Pork-Addicted Politicians

There are so few politicians who are willing to stand and fight for anything other than their right to aggrandize themselves with your money!

Senator Dr. Tom Coburn is a wonderful exception to the rule.

Here's Mark Tapscott's nifty column about "Doc" Coburn squarely facing off with his petulant, swinish colleagues.

The Stench of Injustice and Violence Continues in Belarus

As one independent journalist is memorialized on the anniversary of her murder, another is killed. Here's the brief update from Radio Free Europe...

Colleagues and relatives on 20 October visited the grave of journalist Veranika Charkasava, who was stabbed to death in her Minsk apartment one year ago, Belapan reported.
Reporters Without Borders wrote in a press release the same day that Charkasava covered a wide range of subjects, noting that she undertook investigative work on sects and organized crime and wrote a series of articles headlined "The KGB Is Still Watching You." Shortly before her murder, Charkasava had been investigating possible Belarusian government arms sales to Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq. Charkasava's case remains unsolved.

Meanwhile, on 18 October Vasil Hrodnikau, a freelancer for the opposition daily "Narodnaya volya," was found dead in his apartment outside Minsk, reportedly after being hit on the head with a blunt object. An investigator from the Minsk District Prosecutor's Office told RFE/RL's Belarus Service on 20 October that evidence and expert examinations so far do not warrant a criminal probe into Hrodnikau's death.

How Goes the Miers Nomination?

Here's a few of the latest takes on what seems to be the unraveling of Harriet Miers' chances to make it to the Supreme Court.

Byron York...Charles Krauthammer...Wes Pruden...John Tabin...and Bob Novak.

I think that's enough to give you the big idea.

Despite the charges of many Bush supporters that veterans of the conservative movement have hurt the President by their opposition to the Miers nomination, the fact is that the President hurt himself by this selection. And the last few days have demonstrated that there's "plenty more hurt" to this nomination that has come via Miers herself and a few of her well meaning but unwise friends.

Lower Case Prejudice

This from a Catholic News Agency report --

According to a new grammar rule in the Netherlands and Belgium, the name "Christ" will soon be written with a lower-case "c", as stipulated by an orthography reform published last Friday.

According to the Kath.net agency, the new spelling rules also will stipulate that the Dutch word for "jews" (joden) be spelled with a capital "J" when referring to nationality and with a lower-case "j" when referring to the religion. The changes will be mandatory starting in August 2006.

This certainly isn't the worst example of modern Dutch decadence. There is, after all, their bold and expansive enthusiasm for abortion, euthanasia, sexual perversions, etc.

But it does tend to underscore the irreligious philosophy under which the other horrors are flourishing.

Government School Teams with Homosexual Activists to Oppose Parental Rights

Homosexuals continue to badger David Parker, a parent who was arrested for a peaceful protest against a Lexington, Massachusetts, school where pro-homosexual literature was given to his son's kindergarten class. Parker's trial began yesterday.

World Net Daily has the story, a disturbing one on many fronts.

Infanticide and Sex Selection Abortion

It is extremely dangerous to be conceived a girl in India. Or Nepal. Or China. Or so many other places in the world.

This situation (described in a news story from Middle East Times) is about as tragic and inhumane as one can imagine.

..."But India is not alone: Afghanistan, China, Nepal, Pakistan and [South] Korea all show evidence of sex ratio imbalances that are likely the result of selective abortion and/or female infanticide or neglect," the report said.

"Although existing laws ban sex-determination testing [in India], fully 60 million girls are now 'missing' - effectively falling into a demographic black hole from which, analysts fear, there will be no return," the report said.

"According to government reports as many as 2 million fetuses are aborted each year for no other reason than they happen to be female," it added.

Thanks for the connection to this news story goes to LifeIssues.net.

"Hate Crimes" Legislation: A Bad Moon Risin'

In this column, Don Feder explains the far-reaching consequences of the recent "hate crimes" legislation passed by the House of Representatives. And those consequences are anything but pretty.

Will President Bush finally find the gumption to veto a bill? Incredibly, he hasn't so far. But this measure (the Children's Safety Act of 2005, H.R. 3132 with the operative Conyers Amendment attached), certainly has the sinister implications to marriage, morality, and the freedoms of thought and expression, to deserve it.

Please read Mr. Feder's column and then consider zipping along a letter, e-mail or phone call to the White House to express your opinion. Contact information follows the sample letter printed below.

Dear Mr. President,

I cannot figure out why you have given so many really bad bills your signature: pork-filled legislation, McCain-Feingold, etc. The people who worked so hard (and so hopefully) for your election and re-election certainly expected more.

However, one of the very worst is heading for your desk in the Children's Safety Act of 2005, H.R. 3132 with its inclusion of the Conyers Amendment adding "sexual orientation" to the definition of "hate crimes."

Mr. President, such legislation promises to punish thought, not just actions, and it equates such unnatural and destructive behavior as homosexuality, cross-dressing, and other perversions with inherent characteristics like race.

A "hate crimes" law like that which is hidden within H.R. 3132 could quickly lead to criminal charges for preaching or teaching against homosexual conduct. It is happening already in Canada and Europe where such legislation was enacted. It will definitely happen here too...unless the pro-family forces get some much-needed help from the White House.

Please veto H.R. 3132 and make it clear to Congress how it failed in its responsibilities by letting the Conyers Amendment get attached to the thing in the first place.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Denny Hartford

Up Close and Personal: Getting Acquainted with the Preborn Child

For an absolutely stunning peek into the world of a child in utero, check out this interview with Dr. Carlo Bellieni, Department of Neonatal Intensive Therapy of the University Polyclinic Santa Maria Le Scotte of Siena.

The child's senses, experience of pain, capability of memory and dreams, and more -- it is a fascinating piece which dramatically illustrates the oft-quoted truths from Psalm 139. Very cool!

Can the Bible Get Back Into Schools?

"At long last, here is an answer for beleaguered school districts that want to offer a Bible course, but don't want to get sued." (Charles Haynes of the First Amendment Center)

Rich Lowery's NRO report about the Bible Literacy Project and its new school textbook, The Bible and Its Influence, is a valuable "heads up" for parents, educators, and others who care about the future of American society.

...America is a Bible-soaked nation, from the Puritans to Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King Jr. Without a basic grasp of the Bible, it is impossible to understand the well springs of our country and the basis of Western civilization. Which is why it is a scandal that Bible education has been chased out of the schools and why the work of the Bible Literacy Project to put it back there is so admirable.

The nonpartisan, Virginia-based Bible Literacy Project has set out methodically to return Bible education to the schools by answering the questions: Is it legal? Is it needed? How can it be done? "The Bible and Its Influence," a just-published textbook for use in grades 9-12, is the culmination of this effort. Rarely is a textbook an occasion for celebration or anything but moaning on the part of students, but this substantial, gorgeously produced, thoroughly vetted volume is an emphatic exception....

Yes, Virgina; There Are Still Fiscal Conservatives in Congress

But, sad to say, not many.

Rebecca Hegelin reports on Indiana's Mike Pence, Texas' Jeb Hensarling, Arizona's Jeff Flake and the Republican Study Committee which is trying to get the House to consider cutting up to $50 billion from the federal budget over the next five years as well as cutting current spending and eliminating wasteful and unnecessary spending.

Makes sense? Of course. But their actions are not being welcomed by the new G.O.P. (Grinding Out Pork). Indeed, these conservatives are being hassled right and left -- make that left and left -- simply by wanting poilticians to be responsible about spending taxpayer money.

My favorite line from the article? The quotation from Rep. Pence in a speech last year to The Heritage Foundation: “Sometimes a small group of people can take a stand, be defeated, and still make a difference.”

Ah! How nice to see a politician choose principle over base pragmatics. That is the essence of statesmanship and the Republican Party greatly needs more of that.

What's Next for Government Intrusion? Internet Commerce

Among the things the bureaucrats and politicians of our modern "nanny state" most hate is individual initiative.

Here's just one example -- North Dakota looking at ways to require auctioneering fees and other hassles of citizens who sell on eBay, for crying out loud.

The One-Way Nature of "Tolerance"

Yesterday I spoke with a friend in the U.K.... up Manchester way, to be more specific. He told me the following story, illustrative of how terribly far Christendom has fallen.

Jim described the huge "celebration" of the homosexual and transgendered called Manchester Pride, a late summer event that draws thousands to its music performances, parade, sports activities, seminars, and more. He explained that he needed to go to an art store in Manchester near where these activities were taking place. So, being a biblical Christian with experience in "gentle persuasion" (Jim is a pro-life activist and former teacher), he made a small placard to carry while he made his way to the shop.

The small sign read,
"Jesus Forgives Sinners, Making Them Glad, Not Gay."

He hadn't walked but a few steps with this message, however, before a policeman approached him and gruffly told Jim to lose the sign or he would be taken to jail. Jim was told that the message on his placard had offended some. Jim asked, "When hasn't a placard offended someone? Yet carrying such signs is a historic and quite legal activity."

The policeman, now joined by others, simply repeated his demand. Hide the sign or be arrested.

Jim couldn't help but see the tragic irony of this situation; namely, that while crowds of people whose attire (or lack thereof), physical actions, banners, music lyrics, etc. all promoted sexual perversions that most of the world finds very offensive, only the Christian position was singled out as being illegal.

This is the one-way nature of tolerance so boldly demanded by the Left...a bullying insistence on its own way that is increasingly supported by media, courts, and even the once-honorable profession of police officers.

Tolerance. It's the watchword of the age.

But its practical effect is simply intolerance towards religious values... the very values that brought light, security and true compassion to Western culture. And this hatred of religious values (rooted, of course, in Christianity) will most certainly bring destruction, both individual and corporate.

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them." (Romans 1:18-19)

A New Way to "Create" Embryos?

Much has been made in some press circles about two papers published in this weeks’ Nature. Both relate to the development on new procedures using mouse embryonic stem cells, and both purport to being ways to create human embryos that would avoid the moral objections currently brought by many.

Don't buy this poor bill of goods.

Josephine Quintavalle, the founder of Comment on Reproductive Ethics (CORE), responds to this ploy in the group's excellent website. An excerpt...

‘...Despite the headlines in the UK papers claiming that these initiatives would meet with the approval of those who oppose embryonic stem cell research, neither of these new projects solves our basic ethical objections. It was amazing that journalists presumed that they would, and that they did not publish comments from those of us who defend the integrity of the human embryo.

‘Jaenisch’s work deliberately creates an ‘abnormal’ embryo with, according to his claims, limited viability. It is nevertheless an embryo for the duration of its shortened life, and therefore our objections remain in place. Respect for the human embryo is not based on its life expectancy. While it exists it is living and the Jaenisch research brings that life to an end...

Freedom of Thought Among Teachers? Can't Have That!

As if the Left has not already come to dominate the education bureaucracy, they've now developed a tool that may well keep the wrong kind (read moral and political conservatives) from being hired as teachers in the first place.

Read John Leo's column about a very disturbing development.

Reagan Library Responds Promptly...And Well

Last week I made an entry here concerning the Telegraph (U.K.) story describing charges of age discrimination at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. I added my own comments as well as the text of a brief letter of protest I had sent along to officials at the Library and the Foundation.

I am pleased to say that Kirby Elizabeth Hanson, the Director of Business Development at the Ronald Reagan Library, promptly and courteously replied to my letter which I print in full below. After reading it, I think you'll agree with me that the Ronald Reagan Library is not only cleared of the charges of age discrimination but, in fact, can boast of an extraordinary record in utilizing and caring for their older Library volunteers.

I appreciate very much the Library's record of diligent and kind-hearted service in this area and especially commend them for their Emeritus program. I also appreciate Kirby Hanson's clear explanation of the Library's position in this prompt and thoughtful letter. I have already replied to that letter with my thanks and my commendations -- but I wanted very much to also set the record straight here by letting Kirby give you the straight story.

Dear Mr. Hartford,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. I’d like to take a moment to explain the entire program to you, all the components, issues and challenges presented to the Library. Please take a moment to read this letter and please know I would like to discuss this with you further, if you’d like.

The Reagan Library Volunteer program is one of the most important and valued components of the Library. Our Volunteers perform numerous tasks which help the Library function in many ways 1) by assisting the archivists, 2) by helping the Foundation in administrative work, 3) by guiding our visitors in the Museum Store and 4) by leading tours for our visitors.

The ages of our Volunteers range from 18 years old to well into their 90’s. This is a Volunteer organization and we do not ask their ages; however, some disclose their ages with great pride as they perform their duties. Currently, we have many Volunteers in their 70’s, 80’s and 90’s; in fact, we have two new trainees who are in their 80’s.

As you can imagine, some tasks at the Library are more rigorous than others and it is up to the Volunteer Council to continually evaluate the program and assign Volunteers to tasks which they are best suited, based on ability. The majority of our Volunteers are over the age of 50 and “age” in any assignment is irrelevant. Performance is the critical component.

Recently, the task of touring has become particularly demanding. To address the issue of growth and expansion with increased attendance and expanded exhibitory, the Volunteer Council was tasked with developing a plan to address the demands and improve the performance of all Volunteers under the supervision of the Library and Foundation.

At the same time, the Library wanted to recognize and salute the enormous contributions of Volunteers, many of whom served since the opening of the Library. Therefore, an Emeritus program was created which provided recognition, life-time membership in the organization with all attendant rights and privileges (which means Emeritus Volunteers are encouraged to attend all lectures, seminars, meetings, and social events), and the opportunity to continue to Volunteer in the archives, in the Museum Store or in the Foundation. The Emeritus Volunteers are exempt from conducting tours; however, because we were concerned that some might be reluctant to give up touring, rather than dismissing them from the program, we have developed an all encompassing program to honor them and offer numerous other options.

The criteria were basic: all Volunteers who tour must be able to perform their abilities to the fullest extent needed by the Library and Foundation. Both physical and intellectual demands were considered by the Volunteer Council who labored over determining which individuals deserved recognition while also needing to be reassigned to other duties.

We regret that some Volunteers who received the Emeritus nomination perceive this as rejection or age-discrimination. This comes as a great disappointment to the Library and Foundation as we endeavored to create a fine Emeritus program with great thought and compassion while continuing to reassign Volunteer responsibilities as we improve and expand the Volunteer program.

I thank you for your concern and appreciate your thoughts regarding the Emeritus program. I am concerned that the media has not truly represented the fact that our Volunteer Council created a thoughtful program offering many attractive options to include the Emeritus Volunteers in every other aspect of the organization. Volunteers have been reassigned to other duties, not dismissed or asked to leave.

We greatly value the contributions of our Volunteers, now, and for the many years they will continue to serve our 40th President.

Thank you again for your comments and please know we appreciate your thoughts and hope this missive has clearly communicated all dimensions of our Emeritus program.

Best regards,

Kirby

One final note: let me say that I've also forwarded Kirby's letter to the Telegraph (U.K.) in hopes they will correct the false impressions their story from last week left in readers' minds. Let's hope the newspaper will show itself responsible and quickly contact Kirby Hanson in order to report the whole story.

Rush is Right!

From the Wall Street Journal's online editorial section comes a concise, cogent primer on conservatism from Rush Limbaugh. The piece confronts the charge that conservatives are "cracking up" over the Harriet Meiers nomination. No, Mr. Limbaugh argues, what we're seeing is a conservative "crack-down."

Principles matter. And Rush demonstrates how sticking to principles is not only the right thing to do; it is also the winning thing.

(Oh yes; I love the WSJ's description of the author. No titles, no connections, no publications -- just "Mr. Limbaugh is a radio-show host." Kinda' like saying, "George W. Bush is in politics" or "Mr. Woods plays golf.")

In fact, this mini-documentary on the miraculous design of the cell is something you'll probably want to download on a disk. It is one of the most unique, stylish refutations of Darwinian evolution on the internet.

So, grab a soda and kick back for awhile with "The Miracle in the Cell: Biochemical Evidence for Creation."

Does Anybody Know the Bible Anymore?

What is more tragic and dangerous than the overwhelming secularism in the public square? Answer -- the overwhelming biblical illiteracy in the Church.

Here's an important warning from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President, Al Mohler.

A Re-Awakening of Plague and Pestilence

Forget Halloween's ghosts and goblins; this column by Charles Krauthammer is scarier than anything the dark holiday can conjure up.

I'd suggest you read it slowly and then take a couple of minutes afterward to pray that such a horror is never unleashed upon the world.

But pray too that people thinking about this possibility as well as the present calamities we've seen in floods, fire, earthquakes, and so on, will cause people to make their peace with God so that death (which comes to us all) loses it's awesome sting.

That peace, of course, was offered by God to everyone when He sent Jesus Christ to die for the sins of the world. Trusting in His sacrifice (not in your own good works or in a false substitute) brings salvation from sin's penalties and powers...even as it opens the way into God's "forever family" that surpasses death.

"It is appointed for all men to die, and then the judgment," says the Bible. It is therefore an ultimate priority to prepare for it by receiving Christ as Savior. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes on Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

This is the answer, the only answer to the fears that death inspires. Whether it comes from epidemic, hurricane, an intruder in the night, an automobile accident, or whatever else -- what's important beyond all else is to be ready to meet God as welcoming Father rather than as Divine Judge.

Faith in the loving sacrifice Christ performed on the cross is the way to insure the former reception.

Are you ready?

Harriet Meiers: Will Her Religion Make A Difference?

Cal Thomas is, as nearly always, spot on with his comments about Harriet Meiers' evangelical religion being played as a trump card. Excerpts...

...Her friend, Texas Supreme Court Judge Nathan Hecht, was asked on Fox News Sunday (Oct. 9) how Miers could separate her faith from her work. Hecht replied it is "easy" because, "Legal issues and personal issues are just two different things. Judges do it all the time. In fact, a judge is going to take an oath that says I'm going to judge rightly in cases, which means that you have to set aside your personal views in deciding the case. And if you don't do that, you're either a bad believer in your views, a bad judge or both."

From that answer comes this question: If Harriet Miers can easily set aside her faith on the job, what is the point of nominating someone with such faith? Why not nominate someone of no faith and the question would never come up? Is faith good only for the confirmation process, but not the job?...

...Harriet Miers should not be required to deny her faith as the price of confirmation, but neither should she be allowed to hide her intent to use it, or lose it, once on the bench.

The Apostle James wrote, "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone" (James 2:17). Will the faith of Harriet Miers die on the court, or will her works die? Inquiring minds not only want to know; we need to know before passing judgment.

Voinovich & Martinez: The Smell of Petty Vindictiveness

Bob Novak takes a look at the haughty "politics of destruction" as practiced by Republican Senators Mel Martinez of Florida and George Voinovich of Ohio. Stinky!

Adult Stem Cell Treatment Unavailable in U.S. May Save Charlotte's Life

While the United States plays immoral and unscientific political games with the issue of embryonic stem cell research, the truly promising paths of inquiry and treatment are generally ignored. Here's just one case.

Comments FRC President, Tony Perkins:

Four-year-old Jordan Logan has a rare genetic disease. Healthy at birth, she is now blind, fed by tube, and is bathed by home health aids. Jordan's mom Charlotte Logan had taken the child to Mexico in March for an expensive experimental treatment using umbilical cord stem cells. Little Jordan's first treatment with these adult cells yielded measurable improvement. Jordan and her mom were evacuated from their Pass Christian, Mississippi, home because of Hurricane Katrina.

An Alabama businessman generously lent his executive jet for the Mexican trip and doctors there waived their fees. Why Mexico? Because these adult stem cell treatments have not yet been cleared by our Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Instead of focusing on expanding the unethical and ineffective embryonic stem cell research Congress should make sure government is promoting the ethical and effective alternative.

American Girl Dolls Helping Fund Abortion?

A "heads up" sent over from the Scheidlers concerns an alarming connection between the mega-popular American Girl Dolls and the pro-abortion organization, Girls Incorporated.

It seems last month the American Girl Doll company initiated a campaign involving a special pledge and the purchase of a $1 bracelet. However, 70 cents from each sale is being donated to Girls Inc. along with a bonus $50,000 donation from the American Girl Doll company to the organization.

But hold on a second -- Girls Inc. is no innocent, wholesome agency. Take a look at some of the anti-life, anti-family elements of its' purpose statement:

* "Girls Incorporated supports a woman's freedom of choice, a constitutional right established by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973 in Roe vs. Wade."

* "To make responsible decisions about sexuality, pregnancy and parenthood, girls need and have a right to sensitive, truthful sexuality education; convenient access to safe, effective methods of contraception and protection from disease; and referral to comprehensive information, counseling, clinical and other services that support their responsible decisions."

* "Girls have a right to positive, supportive environments and linkages to community resources for dealing with issues of sexual orientation."

* In addition, Girls Inc.'s list of "Sexuality Resources for Girls" includes books promoting premarital sex, birth control, contraception and abortion. And while Girls Inc. says they promote abstinence, their program for pregnancy prevention depends on providing birth control, and Girls Inc. opposed additional funding for abstinence education in the U.S. Senate.

The Pro-Life Action League is urging parents and other responsible Americans to contact American Girl to object to the company's support for Girls Inc.

Letters, phone calls and e-mails should be directed to:

Here's mine.

Dear Ms.Brothers,

I was truly grieved to hear about the connection between American Girl and Girls Inc., an organization whose feminist policies supporting abortion, indiscriminate sex education, and the confusion of sexual "orientation" certainly clash with the convictions of most of your customers. Until the American Girl Doll company completely severs its links to Girls, Incorporated, I will be among those urging my friends to shop elsewhere for their daughters' and granddaughters' Christmas presents. Please reconsider your poor decision. Thank you for your time.

Director, Vital Signs Ministries

Joe Scheidler and his devoted team are hoping (and praying) that American Girl will quickly sever ties with Girls Inc. before the League calls for a boycott of American Girl products and launches a picketing campaign at the American Girl Place retail stores in Chicago and New York.

Religious Intolerance: Evangelical Chaplains Harassed for Sharing the Gospel

From the Family Research Council...

It appears the U.S. Air Force may be backing down from a policy that would have allowed military chaplains to witness to Air Force personnel who are not affiliated with other religions. According to a document circulated at a school for Air Force chaplains, the military clergy pledged: "I will not proselytize from other religious bodies, but I retain the right to evangelize those who are not affiliated." But now, the Air Force seems to be caving in to a lawsuit filed by 1977 U.S. Air Force Academy graduate Mikey Weinstein.

Mr. Weinstein has accused Academy leaders of pressing cadets to embrace Evangelical Christianity. These developments raise disturbing questions about the rights of Christians in uniform. The Academy's Commandant, an Evangelical Christian with an excellent record, was "passed over" for promotion following the complaints. When cadets take the oath to defend the Constitution of the United States--shouldn't their First Amendment rights be a part of what they defend?

Age Discrimination Injustice: "Dutch" Reagan Would Be Mad

Weighing in on a sad case of discrimination against elderly tour guides at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is the U.K.'s Telegraph. Here is an excerpt from their story...

Nearly 30 of the volunteers learned of their fate in a letter telling them that they were being relieved of their duties. They were awarded "emeritus" status and handed glass globes and certificates signed by Nancy Reagan.

Administrators deny that age was a factor in dismissing the volunteers, who are devoted to President Reagan. He was buried in the grounds of the library in the Simi Valley north of Los Angeles after his death last year aged 93.

But many of those affected, the majority of whom are in their seventies, believe otherwise.

"It was just 'goodbye and don't come back'," said Norma Stafford, 75. "Basically all they said was that we were not needed any more. But as we went along we figured out that all of us were over 70 or had grey hair, some of us both.

"I guess they thought we wouldn't be able to bounce around and were looking for younger people. But believe it or not, you can walk and talk in your 70s - as Mr Reagan did."

She said the nation's oldest president, who was 77 when he left office in 1989, "would not have liked this at all"...

Amen, Mrs. Stafford. Let's hope this injustice is quickly amended. In fact, here's my 2 cents worth sent to both the Library and the Foundation.

By the way, the appropriate contact information is printed below the sample letter. Why not fire off your own message today?

Dear Reagan Library and Foundation staff leaders,

I just heard about the callous injustice inflicted upon the elderly tour guides at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. How sad (and utterly un-Reaganesque!) was this action. It certainly hurts the reputation of the Library and Foundation as well as making fans of Ronald Reagan like myself very embarrassed.

Having toured the boyhood home of Reagan in Dixon, Illinois, with the wonderful assistance of elderly guides, I can attest to the special benefits of having experienced, principled, and long-devoted people performing such service. Please amend your error quickly and let these dear folks get back to guiding Americans through the Library of a great man who would be appalled at your insensitivity. Thank you for considering my request.

Sincerely,

Denny Hartford

Harriet Meirs Has Everyone Guessing -- And That's Not Good

Harriet Meirs -- is she a scholar or a secret agent? A true conservative or merely a trusted crony? A strict constitutionalist or Sandra Day O'Connor the Second?

The Wall Street Journal's John Fund, first a supporter of the President's nominee, is having second thoughts.

Another Reason to Suspect the Stealth Candidate

From the "Today's News" section of the latest Chronicle of Higher Education...

For someone both heralded and feared as a potentially conservative voice on the U.S. Supreme Court, Harriet E. Miers has played a key role in exposing college students to some unmistakably liberal ideas.

In the late 1990s, as a member of the advisory board for Southern Methodist University's law school, Ms. Miers pushed for the creation of an endowed lecture series in women's studies named for Louise B. Raggio, one of the first women to rise to prominence in the Texas legal community. A strong advocate for women, Ms. Raggio helped persuade state lawmakers to revise Texas laws to give women new rights over property and in the event of divorce.

Ms. Miers, whom President Bush announced on Monday as his choice to fill the Supreme Court seat being vacated by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, not only advocated for the lecture series, but also gave money and solicited donations to help get it off the ground.

A feminist icon, Gloria Steinem, delivered the series's first lecture, in 1998. In the following two years, the speakers were Patricia S. Schroeder, the former Democratic congresswoman widely associated with women's causes, and Susan Faludi, the author of Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women (1991). Ann W. Richards, the Democrat whom George W. Bush unseated as governor of Texas in 1994, delivered the lecture in 2003...

In Vitro's Monstrous Secret

Researchers at Yale School of Medicine have argued in a study just made public that 85% of the embryos transferred during in vitro fertilization never make it to birth.

Now, when you ponder that over a million kids have been born through IVF methods (as was boasted last year by specialists in the field), you get a glimpse of the horrible reality that is generally unseen and unspoken of; namely, the nearly 6,000,000 embryos who have not survived.

This report prompts me to repeat my comments from an entry I posted here last spring...

What Happens to the "Extra" Embryos?

Amid all the talk about the ever-increasing availability of in vitro fertilization techniques, one issue is almost never mentioned; namely, what happens to all those extra embryos?

Well, to be frank, almost none of them make it.

Despite whatever warm feeling one might have towards infertile couples who are being helped to conceive a child through in vitro fertilization, it is important to understand this fact -- in vitro fertilization generally creates multiple embryos to ensure a greater probability of success. And, yes, most of the little humans thus created die. Either those embryos die as a result of the limitation of the female body to accommodate them properly or, in many instances, they are never implanted in the first place.

In the case of the embryos left over in the storage facilities of fertility clinics, different fates await them. They can, for instance, be frozen for some unspecified purpose in the distant future (the storage frequently being lethal itself) or they can be sold or donated to scientific research, a monstrous end from which none survive. Many IVF clinics merely incinerate the tiny guys and gals when they die, treating them no better than medical waste. Others, trying to be less crass, give the embryos some kind of funeral.

But no matter where the tiny bodies end up, they’re simply dead bodies, not living, growing human beings. And nothing, not even the heartbreak of being unable to naturally conceive children, can justify such brutal pragmatics.

Stem Cell Update: Dr. J. on a Great New Team

A little-noticed Washington event this past week saw the veteran pro-life champion, Rep. Chris Smith teamed with ABA/NBA star Julius Erving at a news conference urging quick approval of the Stem Cell Therapeutic and Research Act of 2005. This legislation would increase the abilities of scientists to conduct morally-sound research on umbilical blood cord cells. It passed the House last May with only one Congresswoman voting against it but the Senate hasn't yet got around to this much needed bill. The Senate version is S. 1317.

By the way, the news conference in which Smith and Dr. J. participated also included several kids who have already benefited from cord blood treatment for such conditions as Leukemia, Krabbe's Disease, and Sickle Cell Disease.

Urge your Senators to support S. 1317 to help advance ethical cures that do not destroy human lives.

The Nightmare Worsens: Netherlands Doctors to Expand Killing Ways

From a Canadian Broadcasting Company news story...

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (CP) - The Dutch government intends to expand its current euthanasia policy, setting guidelines for when doctors may end the lives of terminally ill newborns with the parents' consent.

A letter outlining the new directives will be submitted to parliament for discussion by mid-October, but the new policy will not require a vote or change of law, Dutch Health Ministry spokeswoman Annette Dijkstra told The Associated Press on Thursday...

The change in Dutch policy is especially significant because it will provide the model for how the country treats other cases in which patients are unable to say whether they want to live or die, such as those involving the mentally retarded or elderly people who have become demented...

The government will establish a vetting commission, modelled on commissions currently in place for adult euthanasia, to determine whether conditions have been met in each case and to refer the case to public prosecutors if they do not. But unlike with adult euthanasia, prosecutors will not be bound to follow the commission's judgment that conditions have been satisfied.

"The public prosecutor's office will always make an independent decision," Dijkstra said. "The ending of a life must occur with the utmost of caution."

"Withdraw This Nominee"

Charles Krauthammer has a incisive column in the Washington Post that deserves serious thought. Clicking on the title of this post will take you there. But also read Peggy Noonan's take; it too provides important perspective.

What conservative support exists now for Supreme Court nominee Harriet Meirs is all a matter of trust...perhaps even wishes. Krauthammer and Noonan (along with many other conservatives, including yours truly) believe the American people deserved better.

Penguins as Pawns in the Evolution vs ID Debate?

Jill Stanek alerted her fans to this really interesting movie review of "The March of the Penguins." Be sure to check it out.

And, yes; be sure and find time to see this terrific flick. More than the film's clear depiction of intelligent design (though definitely unintended by the movie's creators), "The March of the Penguins" gives insight into the very character of God. It's a ten!

From Whence Comes the Real "Culture of Corruption"?

Cal Thomas' column about the Democrat's baseless attack on Tom Delay while all the while ignoring their own massive contributions to a "culture of corruption" is spot on the mark. Good job, Cal.

Looking Closely at Your Charitable Giving

From the latest Nebraska Catholic Conference Life Insights comes a very helpful review of major charities and their positions regarding embryonic stem cell research and other sanctity of life issues. I'd suggest you make a hard copy of this for ongoing reference. Perhaps, even a nice copy to pass around to friends.

Be Vigilant with Charities

Throughout the year there are various medical charities that come knocking on our doors at home, work, or school, asking for our donations or for our help in raising money. Most of these charities do good work in finding treatments for a variety of diseases. Unfortunately, many of these charities also support or engage in research that violates the dignity of human life.

A few years ago, my office surveyed numerous medical charities asking for their positions on research using aborted fetal tissue or human embryos. About half of the charities did not respond or had ambiguous responses. They are: Alliance for Aging Research, National Parkinson Foundation, American Auto-Immune Disease Assoc., National Spinal Cord Injury Association, American Paralysis Association, Neurological Disorders Research Coalition, Epilepsy Foundation of America, Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, Huntington’s Disease Society, Spina Bifida Association of America, National Hemophilia Foundation, Tourette Syndrome Association, National Infertility Association, National Osteoporosis Foundation, United Parkinson Foundation, and the Lymphoma Research Foundation.

Four of the charities said that they were not involved in fetal tissue or embryo-destructive research: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, National Kidney Foundation, Children’s Leukemia Research Association, American Heart Association.

Ten charities expressed clear support for research using aborted fetal tissue, and/or embryonic stem cells: National Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, March of Dimes, Glaucoma Research Foundation, The American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association, American Lung Association, Huntington’s Disease Society of America, Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, which sponsors an annual “Race for the Cure” fundraiser, has a different problem. The Foundation gives a large amount of the money it raises to community outreach programs. In 2003, $475,000 of such funds was distributed to 21 local Planned Parenthood chapters. The Foundation’s refusal to discontinue its relationship with Planned Parenthood caused one of its board members to resign.

It is very sad when organizations that otherwise do good and important work get unnecessarily entangled with immoral activities or organizations. This entanglement presents a dilemma to people who want to support good research, often as a tribute to a loved one, but don’t want their contributions to support immoral activities.

Catholic individuals, and especially Catholic organizations, can have a powerful influence on such charities by refusing to donate to, or raise funds for, them until they change their policies. A case in point is the American Heart Association (AHA). Following a flood of protest letters, including one from the Archbishop of St. Louis, and the resignation of an entire fundraising committee in one state, the AHA changed its policy and no longer funds or advocates for immoral research.

For those wishing to support research without supporting immoral activities, there are some alternatives. In addition to the four charities mentioned above, Easter Seals, which helps children with disabilities, does not support immoral research (www.easterseals.com). The Breast Cancer Prevention Institute was founded to look at the connection between abortion and contraceptives and breast cancer (www.bcpinstitute.org, 1-866-622-6237).

The Spinal Cord Research Advancement Foundation raises money to support research using adult stem cells to treat spinal cord injuries (http://www.linksforcure.com/scicuremain.htm). The Thomas Hartman Foundation for Parkinson’s Research was founded by “God Squad” co-host, Father Tom Hartman, who was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s. The foundation excludes any funding for human embryonic stem cell research and supports research using adult stem cells to treat Parkinson’s (http://www.hartmanfoundation.org , 631-277-9655).

The Lee Iacocca Foundation is raising money to support research with an adult stem cell therapy that reverses Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes in animals. The Foundation has contributed $1 million for human trials and is asking one million Americans to help by donating $10 each (http://www.joinleenow.org).

Movie Life vs Real Life

From the San Jose Mercury News comes an AP story about an Australian study emphasizing the other-worldy nature of Hollywood. There's no great surprises here (few of these well-financed social studies deliver much beyond what is already common knowledge), but the story is a good reminder to parents (and all others, for that matter) of just how dangerous an influence going to the movies nowadays can be. You need to be registered to get to the SJMN so here's a few excerpts:

...The Australian researchers studied a September 2003 list of the 200 biggest box-offices successes of all time as ranked by the Internet Movie Database. They excluded animated features, films with G and PG ratings, and movies released or set before the start of the AIDS pandemic in 1983.

Of the 87 remaining movies in the study published Monday in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, 28 contained sex scenes - a total of 53 scenes in all...

The sexiest film - in quantity, if not quality - was 2001's "American Pie 2," which contained seven episodes of unprotected sex in which the "only consequences were social embarrassment..."

Eight percent of the films contained depictions of marijuana use, and 7 percent other non-injected drugs, the researchers said.

Just over half the marijuana scenes - 52 percent - showed use of the drug in a positive way. In the other 48 percent of cases it was depicted as neutral.

Characters smoked tobacco in 68 percent of the films and got drunk in 32 percent.

Only a quarter of the movies were entirely free of behavior such as unprotected sex, drug use, smoking and drinking, the researchers said...

Study Showing Moms Are Great for Kids Is Opposed as Sexist

The British study showed what common sense already taught; namely, kids are much better off when Momma looks out for them...full time.

But, what do facts matter to the politically-correct crowd of social scientists and government bureaucrats? Indeed, to these niggling obscurantists, what do kids matter?

What is Bush Up To?

David Limbaugh writes about what many conservatives are feeling today over President Bush's selection of unknown Harriet Miers for the nation's high court...but David Limbaugh writes so well.

As does the invaluable Cal Thomas who emphasizes the need to "trust but verify."

For a dimmer view, one which is funny but treats the President's choice with definte disdain, read Wes Pruden over at the Washington Times.

Check them all out and, like all of us, keep praying.

The President Chooses a "Bush Leaguer" for High Court

President Bush swings...and misses badly with his selection of personal pal, Harriet Miers, to take a seat in the Supreme Court. He had so many really excellent people available that this poor choice has to be considered a major failure of nerve.

With the stakes that are involved for issues of freedom, the sanctity of life, and more, President Bush has served up a tremendous disappointment.

The boys at Power Line weigh in with similar reactions. As do William Kristol, David Frum, and Captain Ed. Here are a few other quick takes, none of them positive: Single Malt Pundit, Southern Appeal, Mark Levin, and the list goes on.

Robert Bork, where are you when we need you?

Abortionist Fears Emerging Technology

An excerpt from an interesting story from the Toledo Blade...

Dr. Martin Ruddock has performed abortions in northern Ohio for more than 20 years, and he's thankful - on most days - for medical advances over those years.

When he started, ultrasound wasn't available. Today, he routinely uses ultrasound to guide his instruments, which means less pain for the woman, less blood loss, less infection, and fewer complications. Newer drugs also have cut down on pain during the procedure, and other new drugs decrease bleeding.

But Dr. Ruddock also worries that "technology is being misused too."

Abortion-rights opponents, he says, use ultrasound, but instead of using it as part of a medical procedure, they use the powerful, clear images to try to persuade women to not get an abortion. Lawmakers, seeing these images, have used them to push for legislation restricting abortion.

"The [new] ultrasound has been a big negative for us because the anti-choice people have co-opted it," he said.

And as infants are being kept alive at younger ages because of medical advances, politicians are bound to pick up on that, he said.

"They're trying to push back the line farther and farther toward conception," Dr. Ruddock said...

Frankenstein's Castle

Is Western culture on the path to "fetal farming," the creation of human beings specifically for the use of their organs and body parts? As horrific as this sounds, leading pro-life advocates are arguing that this is exactly where we are headed and political action is needed right now to change course. Read this brief article from Citizen Link.
