Keeping One's Balance in the Culture Wars

Melissa's blog, Our Side of the Mountain, is always a refreshing, reassuring waypoint in my cyberspace traveling for there I find evidence of a Christian family in close touch with God, with each other, with extended family and with the expansive, beautiful creation of our Lord.

And, far from taking a monastic approach to life, this is a loving family that also finds time to engage the culture through intercession, personal advocacy, church involvement, home school education and, of course, the blog.

I describe Our Side of the Mountain to you this morning 1) because I think you'll find it an inspiring reminder of our key priorities, those challenging but joyful duties that are of such immense importance to God no matter what the coming election brings, and 2) as an introduction to two specific items from Melissa. One is her encouragement to sign this e-petition, asking the LA Times to release the videotape they claim to possess showing Barack Obama at a party with radical Palestinian activists, Bill Ayers, and Bernardine Dohrn, being praised by former PLO spokesman Rashid Khalidi.

And the second item is a video clip she posted on her blog entitled "Get Service" which I highly recommend. It is a thoughtful, winsome reminder to live above our circumstances, emotions and preoccupations. The clip, by the way, was produced and uploaded onto You Tube a few years ago by Fellowship Bible Church out of Little Rock. Good stuff.
