Euthanasia Is No Joke

Hugh Jackson, a Conservative councillor for Monkseaton North, has resigned his seat (he had already been suspended by his party) after suggesting that euthanasia could provide a way to cut the costs of caring for vulnerable children. Jackson said his comment was only a piece of "misplaced humour."

Such a taste in comedy is certainly reason enough to remove this cad, even it was only a joke and he didn't mean it. But for many other Europeans, euthanasia is a very serious subject. Just ask the various government leaders who are trying to accommodate euthanasia enthusiasts. Just ask the widow of Belgian poet Hugo Claus who ended his life by legal euthanasia last month. Or ask the Dutch right-to-die organization who insists that legal euthanasia now be expanded to Alzheimer patients and to just about anybody else who can't "verbalize their feelings."

No, euthanasia is a deadly serious matter indeed...a philosophy with the most chilling of social repurcussions.
