“Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago values." (Mayor Rahm Emanuel)
And just what does His honor consider "Chicago values" to be?
Well, on the very day he harshly condemned the pro-marriage beliefs of Chick-fil-A's owners and threatened (quite unconstitutionally) to ban them from the city, the Mayor opened his arms to welcome the leader of the Nation of Islam, the notoriously anti-Semitic troublemaker, Louis Farrakhan.
And then there's that little problem of Chicago being the murder capital...of the entire world! Yes, Chicago is running a murder rate that's a bit higher then New York City, a metropolis that is three times Chicago's size! Chicago residents are in greater danger of being murdered than are American soldiers in Afghanistan. Since 2005, Chicago has averaged around 450 homicides a year.
Both Emanuel and the police chief are being criticized for a new approach to the city's gang wars, many blaming those changes as the impetus behind the city's soaring homicide rate this year.
I don't know about that. But I do know foolishness, irrelevance and misdirected intolerance when it's splashed across the front page.
Therefore, instead of threatening a Christian businessman, one who simply voices the Christian doctrine on marriage that is one of the foundations of Western civilization, one who runs an extremely popular and productive business, and one who carefully observes not only his country's laws but his own Faith's commands about a righteous and compassionate lifestyle -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel should tend to more important matters. And, of course, he should understand that the real "Chicago values" are much closer to those of Chick-fil-A than they are to Louis Farrakhan or gangsta hoodlums.
