SEC Defends Pepsi's Use of Fetal Cell Research as "Ordinary Business"

Just a couple of days ago, the Obama administration's Security and Exchange Commission ruled that the mega-corporation PepsiCo can continue using fetal tissue research to develop food flavors.

No, guys. I'm not making this up. Nor is this a wild rumor spread by conspiracy nuts. Pepsi has been contracting research for some time now with Senomyx, a company that develops taste agents using cells from aborted children.

Gruesome? Monstrous? Sickening? Not to the SEC. They refer to it as "ordinary business operations."

Susan Michelle writes at Moral Outcry, the blog maintained by Bound4Life, "It’s tragic that this is true. Precedent does exist; we’ve created pharmaceuticals and wrinkle cream from cells and tissue from aborted babies, so why wouldn’t we make that the product of flavor testing now?…When we allowed fetal cell research, we opened the door for this. While that law needs to be changed as soon as possible, what needs to happen immediately is that PepsiCo (which includes Frito-Lay) Nestle, and Kraft need to display morality and ethics and pull out, regardless of the cost, from Senomyx who exposes the shedding of innocent blood for profit."

And that's where you come in. Please join the boycott of PepsiCo products. Please pass the word to friends and family. And please write a letter to PepsiCo informing them of your actions.

Below is the letter I sent to PepsiCo back in October. (I'm sending an updated one later today.) I also re-print here the rest of that Vital Signs Blog post including the link to Steven Ertelt's LifeNews.com arcticle describing the basic issues involved.

This note is to inform you that Vital Signs Ministries is joining the boycott of Pepsi products because of Pepsi's refusal to disconnect itself from Senomyx, a research firm that uses embryonic kidney cells taken from an aborted baby to produce "taste receptors." I will be passing along the reports about this profoundly offensive partnership to everyone in my spheres of influence.

I hope and pray you discontinue immediately your relationship with Senomyx, apologize for not making an immediate admission/apology to those who have written you earlier and pledge to have nothing to do with such unnatural and immoral policies in the future.

Thank you for considering my most heartfelt complaint.
