Here's a real head-scratcher.Over my car radio yesterday came an alarm about the dangers of head lice to children, presenting the problem as a normal expectation of sending your kids back to school. The quick story included tips about the best products to wash your kids head with -- once a week, at least -- because infestation by these nasty critters is so rife in the schools.
Yuck, you say? Me too.
And yet the report seemed an all too appropriate metaphor for a lot of other dangers that attendance in the government schools creates for kids. For beyond the bullying, the extreme peer pressure, the antagonism to religion, and the general dumbing down of the educational standards, public school kids face intense and ongoing campaigns of philosophical indoctrination.
Here, for instance, is a 10-minute presentation from Focus on the Family's Citizen Link dealing with the public schools' increasing partnership with homosexual organizations. The purpose of such a partnership? To make sure the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered social activists become the authoritative voices in shaping your kids' opinions about sexual morality, family, spiritual values and gender politics.
And they're doing it without your permission. Usually without your awareness.
But always by the graciousness of your tax dollars.
Oh yes, Mom and Dad; there are lurking there in the public schools much greater threats to your kid's head than even blood-sucking insects. So please think long and hard before you toss little Johnny back in there.
