"Ditch That Purse, Honey" -- The Abortionist's Fear of Exposure

We began to notice an unusual thing happening at the abortion clinic a few weeks back, something we had not seen in our nearly 30 years of sidewalk counseling. Abortion clients were going in to keep their appointments but were hustling out minutes later to put their purses, briefcases and anything similar back in their cars. Then back they went into Leroy Carhart's ugly abortion mill.

It probably had happened several times before we bothered to think about it. We do, after all, have other duties before us, like speaking to the clients about the alternatives to abortion and then, of course, praying that they will take advantage of the information and assistance we offer.

But it was such a regular happening that we couldn't help but noticing. Many times it was the husband or boyfriend or parent who brought the purse out and locked it in the car. But even when a young woman was alone, the abortion staff was forcing her back out to the parking lot to get rid of her purse. What on earth was this about?

It took Quint Coppi to come up with the solution. We had been talking earlier in the morning about hearing Lila Rose speak when she was recently in Lincoln and all the dirt she and her undercover team at Live Action had uncovered about Planned Parenthood and other abortionists. (See this post.)

"That's it!" said Quint. "Carhart is afraid that one of these girls might be some kind of plant; someone from Live Action or a journalist from Dateline or 60 Minutes. He's afraid that they've got a camera or tape recorder in their purse which could catch him in something illegal or, at the least, show the abortion process for what it really is: seamy, selfish and brutal."

We're all convinced that Quint's spot on here. It's the only thing that makes sense of the client's strange behavior. And it is certainly in keeping with the abortion industry's devotion to secrecy. For what would happen to their "business" if the realities were known -- realities about shoddy and unsanitary conditions, about uncaring and unskilled staff, about the barbarism of the procedure itself, about the risks to a woman's health, and so much more.

Lila Rose and her colleagues have shone some lights into the workings of the abortion clinic and the resultant fear of such exposure is making abortionists paranoid. They've managed pretty well to circumvent the political powers that be (see this post about the Nebraska AG's slow-moving, if moving at all, investigation of Leroy Carhart), but they're scared to death about the spotlight that might be wielded by a young pro-life activist or a rogue journalist daring enough to buck the trend and expose the dirty business which is abortion.

So scared that they won't suffer a purse in their presence.

"For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed." (John 3:20)
