Obama's Star Just Keeps Falling

The day after his State of the Union speech, several organs of the MSM were promising a big bounce in the polls for President Barack Obama. This despite obvious contradictions in the President's remarks, dullness in his once-lauded oratory, an embarrassing sense of his pandering for partisan applause, and that damning "Not True" mouthed by Supreme Court Justice Samulel Alito.

No, never mind those minor flaws, we were told; the Prez is back on stride and you'll see it in the polls.

Uh, like this one from the respected Marist College survey? The one that shows whatever bounce the President got from the SOTU speech was downward?

Yipes. Not only did the survey show that Obama's overall approval rating has sunk to an all-time low (44%) but "independent voters who propelled him to the White House have gotten downright sick of the job he's doing." Indeed, Geoff Earle goes on to point out in this New York Post story that "Obama's job-approval rating has tanked to a dismal 29 percent among independents, the Marist College survey found. His disapproval rating is nearly twice as high -- 57 percent....The near-total loss of independents could prove catastrophic for Democrats if the trend holds through Election Day this year.

Furthermore, Earle writes, "Independents don't just disapprove of the job Obama is doing, they're tiring of him personally. His favorability rating among them is down to 39 percent, with a 59 percent unfavorable rating."

James Carville, call home. You have a very needy client.
