Conspicuous Consumption: Obama Style

The sky-high expenses of the inauguration. The $100 a pound Wagyu beef. The orchid-growing temperature in the White House. The veal doghouse cake.

The constant traveling with an unimaginably expensive retinue. The $4,000 a night Hawaii pad. The high-dollar sneakers, dresses and fashion accoutrements.

Sacrifice is for the rest of us -- not for the First Family.

John Dietrich's American Thinker article explores just a bit of the consumptive capriciousness that has become a pattern for the Obamas -- this despite their sanctimonious (and constant) scolding that the rest of us must endure the recession with thrift, sacrifice and lowered expectations.

And be sure that Dietrich's article is a bit of an anomaly. For the same press that was constantly on the sniff for expensive tastes when demonstrated by the Reagans or the Bush's has no nose at all for the over-the-top extravagance of the Big O.
