At a Ramadan celebration dinner last night, President Barack Obama again heaped high praise on Islam, lauding it as "a great religion and its commitment to justice and progress."Obama did not mention Islam's brutal mistreatment of women, its desperate disregard of religious tolerance, its historic use of coercive violence against non-believers, its sponsorship of international terrorism, or the barbarity of its "justice system" which orders limbs severed for theft, excruciating beatings of women who show their face in public, and beheading executions for criticism of the Koran.
But why bring those kinds of inconvenient matters up? Why spoil a good party?
Obama also showed once again how his shameless pandering towards Muslims trumps basic history. "The contribution of Muslims to the United States are too long to catalog because Muslims are so interwoven into the fabric of our communities and our country," said our President.
"Too long to catalog"? Obama has used this same line before. And its getting more than stale; its becoming doggone counter-productive. Even his liberal friends yearn for our Chief Executive to cite just a few of those major contributions. "Hey, just give us one or two. Please? Otherwise people are going to realize there is no list to catalog."
And then Obama, who regularly extols his deep commitment to Christianity dropped this gem. Quoting that profound theologian, Muhammad Ali (and you thought he was just a boxer), Obama said, "A few years ago, he explained this view -- and this is part of why he's The Greatest -- saying, 'Rivers, ponds, lakes and streams -- they all have different names, but they all contain water. Just as religions do -- they all contain truths."'
This is what passes for Barack Obama as Christian orthodoxy? For crying out loud, that couldn't pass muster as a Hallmark greeting card.
Obama also released a video message to Muslims before the start to Ramadan. In the video, the U. S. President said that Ramadan's rituals are a reminder of the principles Muslims and Christians have in common, including advancing justice, progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.
And he said this with a straight face too.
