Unsettling news has become a daily experience, hasn't it? Let's hope that that unsettling results in a deeper commitment to pray, to build, and to fight back.
* President Barack Obama is ordering that same-sex partners of federal employees begin receiving benefits. Says the AP, "The decision is a political nod to a reliably Democratic voting bloc that has become impatient with the White House in recent weeks."
* Goodness me, talk about failing schools. In one example from an inner city school in Chicago, more than half of the kids flunked 8th grade. And that's with remarkably weakened academic standards. A local TV station reports, not surprisingly, that there is "fierce debate about who's to blame." However, the story never mentions the key culprits; namely, those promiscuous deadbeat dads who leave their kids to be raised by the over-stressed moms; a welfare culture that punishes incentive and responsibility; and the shameful antagonism of Democrat-controlled government and teacher's unions against competition, high academic standards and school choice.
* Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, an Obama fan and fellow Democrat, is admitting that the President broke the law last week when he fired Gerald Walpin, Inspector General of the Corporation for National and Community Service. And McCaskill ought to know -- she wrote the law. And Obama co-sponsored it! “The White House has failed to follow the proper procedure in notifying Congress as to the removal of the Inspector General for the Corporation for National and Community Service,” McCaskill said. “The legislation which was passed last year requires that the president give a reason for the removal.” McCaskill...said that the president’s stated reason for the termination, “Loss of confidence’ is not a sufficient reason.”
