Dan Rather's Calendar Girl

Well, it's been a year now since the CBS brass hired former cheerleader Katie Couric to "hold down" the anchor desk for CBS News. Has she made the grade?

Not even close.

Couric's ratings are absolutely awful. And she is regularly mocked (even by other liberals) for her artificiality, her shallowness and, of course, for her inability to even seem ideologically balanced.

The Media Research Center cites just a handful of representative moments on this page -- moments that include these gems:

Of Al Gore, Couric crooned, "My fervent hope is that Hollywood’s embrace of Al Gore doesn’t give people an excuse to condemn and mock the effort — and oppose taking steps that we as a society need to take to deal with the issue of climate change."

Of the Iraq war, "With each death, with each passing day, so many of us ask, ‘Is there a way out of this nightmare?’"

After Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice defended America’s foreign policy ("What’s wrong with assistance so that people can have their full and complete right to the very liberties and freedoms we enjoy?"), Couric tartly replied: "To quote my daughter, who made us the boss of them?"

Again, read a few others in this vein over here.
