Barack Obama spoke to the congregation of Vernon Park Church of God on Chicago's South Side yesterday about the epidemic of violence among young blacks.
"From South Central L.A. to Newark, New Jersey, there's an epidemic of violence that's sickening the soul of this nation," he said. "The violence is unacceptable and it's got to stop."
He quoted a Chicago Public Schools finding that nearly three dozen Chicago students have been killed so far this year, a number higher than the U.S. servicemen and women from the whole state of Illinois who have been killed in Iraq over the same time period.
Among the solutions Obama pointed to were gun control, after-school programs, and more acceptance of responsibility by adults.
"We have an entire generation of young men in our society who have become products of violence, and we are going to have to break the cycle. There are too many young men out there who have gone down the wrong path...There's a reason they go out and shoot each other, because they don't love themselves. And the reason they don't love themselves is because we are not loving them enough."
Oh...about the murder of black babies by abortionists, at a rate much higher than the average for other races and involving numbers a thousandfold higher than the ones he cited in his sermon, Barack Obama said nothing.
