Bi-Partisan Washington Events to Focus Awareness of Abortion Among Blacks

The National Black Pro-Life Union will be hosting a couple of events in Washington, D.C. today to help make Black History Month a time for a new commitment against abortion in the black community. At one of those events, a "Leaders For Life Luncheon," Senators Sam Brownback (Republican from Kansas) and Senator Ben Nelson (Democrat from Nebraska) are scheduled to speak. So too are Congressmen Chris Smith (Republican from New Jersey) and Allen Mollohan (Democrat from West Virginia). Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, President of BOND, will deliver the keynote address. The event will be held in the Mansfield Room of the United States Capitol Building.

"February is Black History Month, a time when we remember our struggles to obtain freedom and civil rights and to celebrate the many accomplishments and triumphs that we have achieved," said Day Gardner, President of the National Black Pro-Life Union. "It is also a time to focus on the many challenges that lie ahead such as the paramount challenge of ending abortion."

"You know, it really doesn't matter when it comes down to it, what party you belong to -- the focus must always be on our children who are killed and harvested by abortion and the women -- mothers who suffer through the ordeal."

The second event is a special co-hosted by Rep. Chris Smith, who is Co-Chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus. That meeting will be held this evening in the "The Gold Room" of the Rayburn House Building. Several members of Congress will speak along with Dr. Alveda King.

Of course, I'm especially curious about the inclusion of Nebraska Senator Nelson in this mix and so I'll try to get more information later about what was said and done at these two events.
