Senator Brad Ashford, Please Let Those Pro-Life Bills Go!

Here is my latest letter to Nebraska State Senator and Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Brad Ashford.

Dear Senator Ashford,

Please remember that your responsibilities in the legislature are – first and foremost – as a legislator and not as a judicial referee.  I understand that you frequently insist that your training and standing as a lawyer means that you need to insure bills will pass constitutional muster.  But you have ended up making the Judiciary Committee a much more controlling, more autocratic body than what the Nebraska Constitution intended -- and what Nebraska citizens are best served by.

The Judiciary Committee bottling up the parental consent law and the prohibition of web cam abortions are two examples of this grave mistake.  It certainly appears that Committee members who support the abortion industry (and Planned Parenthood in particular) are playing games with constitutionality in order to stop these carefully written, popular and common sense bills from going forward. They deserve a full debate in the Unicameral rather than being killed by political chicanery.

Senator Ashford, please let the Attorney General and the judges decide on a bill's constitutionality.  Your overriding concern should be providing fair and responsible legislative service in what was originally conceived as a democratic system.

Please let these pro-life bills out of committee immediately.  Your vote could do it. Please serve the best interests of Nebraska rather than those of Planned Parenthood.

Sincerely,

Denny Hartford,
Director, Vital Signs Ministries
Teaching pastor, Faith Bible Church

I urge all Nebraskans to write and call Senator Ashford to let him know what you think about his involement in the Judiciary Committee's unfair stonewalling of pro-life legislation.
