Calling it "an act of solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters," the City Council of Hartford, Connecticut announced yesterday that it has invited local imams to perform Islamic invocations at the beginning of the Council meetings in September.This even though the Council meetings do not normally open in prayer.
The new "political correctness" regarding Islam is both inexplicable and alarming, steeped as it is in denial of the religion's teachings and cultural effects. A religion that has (throughout the world and throughout the centuries) insisted upon coercive conversion, subjugation of women and the harshest of penal codes is now being cuddled by liberals.
They conveniently close their eyes to jihad, to sharia law, to "honor killings," to the barbaric punishments for petty crimes (or for conversion to another faith), to terrorism, to genital mutilation of women, and to the most extreme religious intolerance -- all to show how free they are from the Christian heritage of their own culture.
It is but adolescent rebellion disguised as free thinking.
But alas, thinking has nothing to do with it.
