Today's stand-out line from the many biased, distorted, sloppy and downright lying "news reports" coming from the mainstream media is this one from the Los Angeles Times' Lisa Mascaro:
"Obama has led what historians have called the most productive Congress since President Lyndon Johnson."
Okay, stop laughing. Really, stop laughing a sec and try to imagine just what Mascaro, once named the Washington Press Club's best congressional correspondent of the year, was thinking.
1) Historians? Like who? And not just some historians or even most historians, Mascaro would have us believe it's a wholesale conclusion. No naysayers. No doubters. Not a single renegade in the bunch who turned in a ballot for Ronald Reagan. No, historians as an entire class have spoken.
2) Productive? By what measure? Outrageous, irresponsible and counter-productive spending? Actions that have taken both the President's and Congress' approval ratings to historic lows? The passage of monstrously complex and convoluted legislation whose contradictory effects and unconstitutional rules make it exceptionally unworkable -- and that's not even mentioning the programs they create which the country has no money to pay for? This is productivity?
3) Since President Lyndon Johnson? This is the benchmark she returns to, the standard by which the unnamed historians have determined success? But the presidency of Johnson was a disaster, not only the abysmal and tragic failure of the Vietnam War, but the creation of all those Great Society programs which further divided our nation, loaded the American economy with unsustainable debt, and watered the seeds of personal entitlement (independent of merit or effort) which has greatly weakened the moral strength of our people. Mascaro's comparison draws unwanted attention to the failures of both let alone the ironic ignorance of the writer herself. It's almost like suggesting "The Pinto is Ford's most popular automobile since the Edsel" or "Lindsay Lohan is the most wholesome Hollywood celebrity since Madonna."
As I said, liberal reporters really are clueless.
