Fidel Castro: "Peanuts, Popcorn, Cracker Jack."

While reading updates this morning about Cuba's cosmetic actions regarding political prisoners (the government is allowing some of them to be moved to prisons closer to their former homes -- not moving them home, mind you, nor announcing that the government is going to stop harassing, repressing and imprisoning innocent people), I was reminded of one of my favorite jokes told by Ronald Reagan.

Reagan set up the story by describing how Fidel Castro had just started one of his long, boring speeches when an older man in the crowd was heard saying, "Peanuts. Popcorn. Cracker Jack."

Castro didn't break his stride but a few minutes later, a second voice was heard but with the same message, "Peanuts. Popcorn. Cracker Jack."

This time the Bearded One seemed momentarily perturbed, probably wondering why the secret police hadn't already scooped up the disrespectful cur. But he continued the speech.

A few minutes later, yet another voice chimed, "Peanuts. Popcorn. Cracker Jack."

That did it. The incensed Castro screams out, "The next person I hear say that -- well, I will personally kick his %#@ all the way to Miami Beach!"

At which the whole crowd erupted, "Peanuts! Popcorn! Cracker Jack!"

I wonder if this made it into Oliver Stone's new movie?
