At the Very Brink of Death, He Offers a Cup of Tea

They go to The Gap to commit suicide. Dozens every year. They climb the short fence and dive off the rocky cliff at the entrance to Sydney Harbor. It is a terrible and desperate tragedy.

But for many of those lonely, hurting people who go to The Gap to throw their lives away, unexpected salvation has come through a soft voice asking, "Why don't you come and have a cup of tea?"

Gina Dalfonzo (editor of both The Point and Dickensblog) alerted her Facebook friends to this moving story in The Independent of 84-year old Don Ritchie, a life insurance salesman who has been saving lives at The Gap for 50 years -- some 160 so far!

It is a stirring story and a tremendous illustration of how a little love, when put in action at the point of need, can change the world.

God bless you, Don.
