State Senator Tony Fulton, though running for the Republican nomination for State Treasurer against a couple of other experienced and well-qualified Republicans (Don Stenberg and Tom Nesbitt), recently won the endorsement of the Lincoln Journal-Star and the co-endorsement (with Stenberg) of the Omaha World-Herald.
The former pointed to Fulton's being "good with details," his leadership in passing Nebraska's interlock device law to curb drunk drivers, and his productive service in the Unicameral's Appropriations Committee which "pulled off the rare accomplishment of presiding over both the state’s biggest budget surplus and its biggest tax cut." The Journal-Star even views Fulton's younger age (37) as a positive, representing as he does the “next generation of leadership” for Nebraska.
In its editorial, the World-Herald stressed Fulton's experience as "a mechanical engineer and number-cruncher" who has proven himself "articulate and forceful" as well as being effective both as a state lawmaker and small-business owner.
