In a daring speech before the House of Lords on February 25, Lord Carey of Clifton, the former Archbishop of Canterbury who now serves as Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire and President of the London School of Theology, challenged Christians that they had either begin to become more assertive in living and proclaiming their faith or else watch their heritage dismissed and their religious freedoms further curtailed.
"If we behave like doormats," Lord Carey warned, "don't be surprised if we are treated as though we are. It is time to return to the public square."
