I post here a few of the photographs showing various scenes from last Saturday's huge Walk for Life in Lincoln. It was an incredible happening. Though a bitterly cold day, the pro-life marchers totaled over 5,ooo people. And when the Walk for Life officially ended, more than 800 then crowded into the UNL Student Union to hear a stirring talk from historian, writer and Fox News commentator, Jane Hampton Cook.
It was one of the largest crowds ever, a vibrant testament to the ever-deepening dedication of the pro-life community.
Conversations with fellow marchers indicated that also among the motivating factors to get out and raise the pro-life banner was the pro-abortion extremism of the Barack Obama administration, the developing fervor of the tea party movement, and the recent cave-in of Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson who brazenly traded away his pro-life principles for an ultimately failed "Cornhusker kickback."
As always, the Walk for Life organizers (Nebraska Right to Life) did a splendid job and all of us owe them a very big thank-you.
And while I'm handing out thank-you's, I'd like to hand out one to Faith Bible Church, the little evangelical church on the near south side of Omaha where I'm a teaching pastor. Our congregation may be small but it was certainly well-represented on the Walk -- we had 27 people from our church present! That's more than a third of our congregation! And if it weren't for the physical limitations of many others in our church family, we would have had another 6 or 8 more.
That is really wonderful for I've no doubt it was the largest percentage (by far) of any other church in the state. Way to go, Faith Bible Church!
The photo at upper left shows me standing at the Capitol building before the Walk with two of my friends, both members of the governing board at our church and both who are remarkable servant-leaders in our congregation. They are Don McGuire (holding the pink banner) and to his left, Allen Nelson. Two other members of our church board were there at the Walk with their families (Steve Thorson and Steve Stout) and the remaining two would have been there if they could. Truly an exceptional group of Christian leaders.
Among the profitable experiences Claire and I have at each Walk for Life is sharing literature and conversation at the Vital Signs Ministries booth we have at the UNL Student Union. I post here a couple of scenes from last Saturday. We are grateful to our good pal (and our favorite artist), Carol Coppi, who set up this year's booth and manned it the whole time.
