Last week I viewed a television advertisement for a new video game which included this troubling line, "Not all heroes are pure." I supposed that it referred to the same kind of anti-hero elements we've been seeing for the last 50 years or so in popular entertainment: nihilism, self-centeredness, immoral indulgences, etc.
The line turned out to mean something yet more sinister and disturbing still as this World Net Daily article explains. Please be aware that the article deals with some very offensive stuff so it may be enough for you to know that "Dragon Age: Origins" (designed for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and rated "Mature") features graphic homosexual relations between a man and an elf.
The game, released just in time for Christmas, also features (as is the norm with most of these things) horrendous violence.
So please, even if you don't think you can handle reading the article (and, God help us, none of us should be able to do so without a churning stomach and a broken heart), at least be well aware to keep this particular game off your shopping lists. You might also pass the word on to friends and family. And perhaps send along a note to the Canadian manufacturer (BioWare) which also makes Star Wars, Baldur's Gate and several other video games. Here's mine:
Dear BioWare,
I was terribly disappointed to learn that your company is not only glorifying the most gory and horrendous violence through its various "games," but has now descended to promoting homosexuality in your new Dragon Age game. I urge you to read through the morning's headlines to be reminded of how our culture's growing insensitivity to violence is getting kids gunned down in the streets with regularity AND to take a serious look at the enormous, debilitating, and tragic costs (both personal and social) that increased homosexual activity has created. Your products will certainly motivate further these sad trends.
Please reconsider your ideas. Entertainment need not be gross or demeaning or immoral.
Know too that I will be warning friends and family about the sinister elements in BioWare products, urging them to spend their money elsewhere. And I will also be sending letters of complaint about your games to Microsoft, PlayStation and Xbox.

Dear Microsoft [and the others],
I have read the latest about BioWare's latest video game, "Dragon Age: Origins," which you approved for use by Microsoft Windows. I must assume you checked it out thoroughly and therefore are well aware that the game not only glorifies the most gory and horrendous violence, but has descended to promoting homosexuality as well. Guys, I urge you to read through the morning's headlines to be reminded of how our culture's growing insensitivity to violence is getting kids gunned down in the streets with regularity AND to take a serious look at the enormous, debilitating, and tragic costs (both personal and social) that increased homosexual activity has created. Your products (and yes, it is a team effort between you and BioWare) will certainly motivate further these sad trends.
Please reconsider your ideas. Entertainment need not be gross or demeaning or immoral.
Know too that I will be warning friends and family about the sinister elements in BioWare products and of your complicity in providing their use through your technology. I will urge them to spend their money elsewhere.
