Dr. Greg Gardner (physician and pro-life colleague) alerted us to this remarkable story from The Christian Institute in Great Britain. It tells of an important pro-life victory in the courts, one which will now force the British government to release basic demographic information about preborn children aborted because they had medical problems or would have faced treatable handicaps. That's right, folks; babies are being brutally dismembered and slain because ultrasounds reveal they have a cleft palate or a club foot.
But what's also bothersome about this matter is the great lengths the government went to in order to keep this information suppressed. The Department of Health was obligated to release the data because of the U.K. Freedom of Information Act. But they refused to do so, citing privacy concerns -- this even though there was absolutely no personal information about patients or medical personnel involved. Actions had to be taken by the Pro-Life Alliance to get the DOH to yield.
But even after the Information Commissioner ruled for the Pro-Life Alliance (thus, against the DOH stonewalling), the government bureaucrats attempted to bar representatives of the Pro-Life Alliance from being present at the appeal hearing. Indeed, the bureaucrats tried to use anti-terrorist laws to keep pro-life advocates away!
Yet with all this, the government still won't give up. Yet another appeal is in the works.
Unbelievable...unless, that is, you figure in the potentialthe damage to the Department of Health's image when these disgusting elements of the abortion ethic goes public.
