Here is a thoughtful essay by Rabbi Binyomin Ginsberg, describing what we can learn from fine restaurants for the improvement of ambiance in our own homes.
Upon entering, our party was immediately greeted with a most warm and friendly welcome. We were led to our table and were comfortably seated. We remained in the restaurant for the next two hours and enjoyed every second of it...
Seated at the table, I realized how comfortable I was and how I really didn't want to leave. This, despite having just eaten a most delicious and generous meal. Could we achieve that same sense of peace and special ambiance that existed at that restaurant in our homes?
The dictionary describes ambiance as the mood, character quality tone, atmosphere, etc. of an environment. Using that definition, we definitely have an ambiance at home as well; it is not only reserved for specific settings, such as restaurants. The question remains: What is the ambiance like at home and how can we recreate it?...
The answers? They're right here.
