The Tragic Voice of the Loser: What An ABBA Song Reveals About Divorce
I've long contented that one of the most poignant and memorable descriptions of how divorce ravages the self-confidence and spiritual balance of a person (usually the discarded wife) comes not from a sociology textbook or a think tank's position paper (as appropriate and correct as those may be), but rather from this plaintive rock song from the Swedish super-group ABBA. It's called "The Winner Takes It All" and is sung by Agnetha Fältskog.
