Stuart Cunliffe is one of our good friends in England who is involved with the pro-life organization IMAGE. He sent over last night the latest copy of a prayer update he receives every couple of weeks which included these two very important items:
* The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill currently going through the House of Lords – it is expected to be debated on January 15 and January 21 – will make it easier for lesbians to have babies by removing the necessity for a child’s need for a father to be taken into consideration in allowing IVF. It will allow genetic screening of embryos to produce babies with tissue suitable for transplant to brothers and sisters who have a wide variety of medical conditions, and it will allow the creation of part human, part animal embryos for research.
When the bill goes for consideration to the House of Commons, amendments are expected to be added seeking to lower the 24-week limit for so-called social abortions, cancelling the requirement for two doctors’ signatures for an abortion, allowing nurses and midwives to perform abortions in the early stages of pregnancy, and allowing abortions to be performed on unlicensed premises.
Pray that peers and MPs will have respect for human life.
* Coming up this week -- The Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill currently going through Parliament has been amended to include an offence of incitement to hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation, without a clause protecting freedom of speech. Critics say incitement to hatred can be dealt with using existing legislation, and the new legislation could be used against Christians expressing biblical views on homosexuality. An amendment providing a freedom of speech clause has now been proposed. It is expected to be considered in the House of Commons this Wednesday, January 9.
Pray that MPs will see that freedom of speech is protected.
By the way, Stuart passes along the fact that you also can receive this prayer digest if you'd like. Simply request it at prayerdigest@uwclub.net. Thanks, Stuart.
