That "old time religion" just doesn't cut it with the new, hipper style evangelicals.
No, bothering with out of date things such as biblical authority and expository preaching or dealing with edgy issues like abortion, euthanasia, homosexuality, divorce, evolution, consumerism, and others that might turn people (and contributions) off, just doesn't fit their style.
Here's just a couple of recent stories posted over on The Pearcey Report that illustrate how your modern evangelicalism is a far, far cry from your grandpa's religion:
This World Net Daily article describes the fawning reception given Hillary Clinton at Rick Warren's mega-church. (There's another good look at this over on Politico.)
The second article is from One News Now and deals with the dangerously naive ideas of evangelicals like Warren and Bill Hybels (along with a number of pseudo-evangelicals like Jim Wallis) about a "common ground" with Islam.
And, of course, there's the enthusiasm being displayed by the "new evangelicals" over politically-correct (though scientifically incorrect) fads of global warming that I've blogged about in previous months. Examples: 1, 2, 3 and 4.
All in all, it reveals that modern evangelicals have not only lost their roots...but in doing so are in danger of losing their minds.
