As several posts on this site have shown over the last couple of years, the very idea of freedom of conscience is under aggressive and sustained attack. And the new tyrants behind these assaults are more than willing to use force (denial of employment, taxes and fines, restrictive legislation, government repression, etc.) in order to overcome once-cherished values regarding the sanctity of life, liberty, religious faith and personal responsibility.
As history has shown, such social engineers move quickly through the stages of "You Can" to "You Should" to "You Must." No one can be allowed to think or act independently; everyone must surrender their minds and their freedom to the enlightened despots who know what's best for the world.
One of the latest steps in this rapidly moving drive to compulsory "group think" is the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recent insistence that all doctors, no matter their personal views about the sacredness of human lives, should be required to refer women to abortionists. Disregard moral considerations, even issues of pure science as they relate to life in the womb. Forget issues of freedom and fairness. Throw away that old-fashioned Hippocratic Oath. And ignore altogether the fact that only a minority of doctors approve of abortion in the first place. No, let nothing stand in the way of the autocratic revolution.
As you might guess, many pro-life groups, including Vital Signs Ministries, have issued protests of the ACOG's remarkable injustice. Among those protests, that of the Christian Medical Association, sent in a letter to ACOG president Douglas Laube and the group's board of directors, is especially noteworthy. Here's the text of that letter.
I urge you to read through the letter and use it as a stimulant and guide for your own protests to the ACOG position. Here's the contact info:
