"Free the Film" -- The PBS Censorship of "Islam vs Islamists" Coming to Light

You may have heard whispers about the film, "Islam vs. Islamists," which was part of the PBS 11-episode series exploring the new realities of a post-9/11 world. But, unless you saw parts of it on Fox News, you have not seen the film and, despite the support of PBS by the American people in both goodwill and a great deal of money, you probably never will see the film on PBS. Why? Its politically incorrect message was just too much for the bureaucrats who run PBS. Indeed, there are several reports suggesting that the heavy-handed censorship "is related to conflicts of interest and in some cases sympathy to Islamist groups or apologists from among PBS officials and series consultants."

Well, a handful of principled politicians (Yes, Virginia; there are still a few of those around) are trying to do something about this matter. Senators Tom Coburn, Jon Kyl and James Inhofe joined with Representatives Trent Franks, Peter Hoekstra, and Peter King to send a letter to Kenneth Konz, Inspector General for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting asking for clear and complete answers about their concerns of ideological bias, conflict of interest, and censorship that prevented a documentary which received a taxpayer-funded $675,000 grant.

Here is a copy of that letter.

And here is a revealing article entitled, The Un-Making of the Film: How PBS Suppressed 'Islam vs Islamists,' which details how the film's exposure of critically-important truths about the purposes, tactics and motivations of America's enemies have been buried by PBS officials. There is a lot more information at this website too, including links to the Fox News coverage of the issue, the history of the controversy, a review of recent articles and editorials, and an opportunity to order the DVD of the original film.

But finally, here is contact information you can use to echo the concerns of Senator Coburn and his colleagues. These guys are trying to help America by bringing this momentous film to light. So, let's give them a hand in doing it.

CPB Inspector General Kenneth Konz
Corporation for Public Broadcasting
Office of Inspector General

And oh, by the way, here's a little factoid to remember every time you hear a pitch from PBS (and they're always throwin' them): the Corporation for Public Broadcasting receives $400 million from taxpayers each year. With all the entertainment and education choices Americans have...and with the huge foundational monies given to PBS...and with their increasingly obvious product advertising...and with the decidedly leftist tilt to their news programs and editorial policies...do you really think we need to keep underwriting PBS at these exorbitant levels?

Right.

So, I'd also encourage you to contact your own Senators and Congressmen. Ask them to join Senator Coburn and the others in their attempt to get straight answers out of CPB officials. And then ask them to just go ahead and turn off the spigots that pour millions of American tax dollars into a most unneeded, undeserving bucket.
