Of Bald Eagles, DDT and Children Dying of Malaria

You've heard the joyous news in several media accounts that the resurgence of the American bald eagle has been more successful than believed possible just a couple of decades ago. Indeed, the eagles have now been removed from the federal list of protected species.

But not only do almost all of these news stories misreport the cause of the birds' endangerment (it was not DDT), but they are lacking a proper sense of priority; namely, the preferment of protecting people over animals.
