"I Believe in Being Reasonable:" Evangelical Preacher "Justifies" Abortion

Yes, it's true. The well-respected evangelical preacher Chuck Smith, went on his radio program and advised a woman caller to have an abortion. The founder of Calvary Chapel was then required to"clarify" his statement -- which didn't make things any better.

The caller described a tragic situation in which she was carrying conjoined twins, with two heads and one body. She told Smith that her doctors were telling her that if she continued the pregnancy, the babies would either be stillborn or only live a day. In tears she told Smith that "her heat is never for abortion, but she doesn’t know what to do. She [said] she’s praying hard and trying to believe the Lord is going to do what He is going to do with 'these little ones.'"

The answer Smith should have given would have included encouragement to do the right thing -- even when it requires suffering and exceptional trust in God's goodness and mercy. Instead, he advocated aborting the twins.

Here's the whole story, including an excellent response to Smith's severe error from Bound4LIFE International.
