Govt. Encourages Gay Couples to Lie to the Census

Remember how we were all strictly warned about the penalties for giving false information on our census forms? Well, once again we see how double standards are in play for folks that liberals deem "special." For even though 45 states do not recognize homosexual marriages, the bureaucrats who are running the U.S. Census do. And they are actively encouraging homosexual couples to lie on the census forms.

Representative government is thus circumvented by unelected clerks who have an agenda...and plenty of power. The Kansas City Star reports,

In fact, representatives of the U.S. Census Bureau are so interested in counting same-sex unions or partnerships that on Tuesday they traveled throughout Kansas City, as they have been throughout the nation, trying to assure lesbian, gay and bisexual individuals that not only is it safe to check the “married” box in states where same-sex marriage is not recognized, it’s encouraged.

Another part of their message: If you’re transgender — born genetically male but having changed to female, or vice versa — feel free to check the gender box you prefer...

Many, such as state Sen. Jolie Justus of Kansas City — who married partner Shonda Garrison in a May ceremony in Iowa — see the Census Bureau’s move as a small, positive step. “I guess that I’m impressed that there is a branch of the United States government that recognizes that families come in different forms, including same-sex couples,” Justus said...

Since the census began, the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force has been calling on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people (the LGBT community) to “Queer the Census.” They ask people to place pink stickers, found at www.queer thecensus.org, on the outside of their individual census packets. The stickers ask that the senders be identified by their sexual orientation.

Activists said the move is as much about political influence as it is cultural and individual recognition.

Yeah, we kinda' figured that all along.

It also seems that the government produced a video in which homosexual couples are specifically instructed to declare themselves on the census as married. That drew this reaction from Tony Perkins over at the FRC.

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, said the "law should count for something when the Census Bureau counts America's population, but apparently it doesn't on President Obama's watch."

"The President's Commerce Department is actively encouraging people to ignore U.S. marriage law and invent new definitions for their relationships," he said. "What kind of government actively lobbies citizens to lie on their forms?"

Perkins adds the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) forbids the federal government from recognizing same-sex relationships as 'marriages.'

"If this video were honest," he said, "it would state, 'If you are a same-sex couple, you should mark the box that says 'unmarried partner,' even if you are legally married according to the laws of the state in which you reside.'
