Are You Ready for Next Week's Elections? Are Your Friends?

A reminder to locals -- we have very important state and city elections coming up next Tuesday, a week from today.

But several of the races are very tight. So don't just plan on voting. Plan on spreading the word about those candidates who have proven themselves skilled and dependable voices for the sanctity of life and other key family and freedom issues.

Among that noble group would be Hal Daub, Chip Maxwell, and Sharon Chvala.

For more detailed information on all the contests , I urge you again to go to the website of the Voters Identification Packet and to the NRL PAC questionnaire and endorsements.

Here's a quick checklist of a few of the Omaha contests.

Omaha Mayor:
Hal Daub (Republican) vs Jim Suttle (Democrat). Hal Daub's pro-life credentials are as solid and impressive as are his credentials in many other areas relevant to the leadership of out city. I've already explained in an earlier Vital Signs post a few of the reasons that my front lawn is adorned with a Hal Daub sign. Give it a read.

And, yes, Hal Daub won the endorsement of the Nebraska Right to Life PAC.

On the other hand, Suttle has been endorsed by Ben Nelson, Jim Fahey and the Teamsters.

Omaha City Council races:
District 1 -- Sharon Chvala (Republican) vs Pete Festersen (Democrat). Chvala is pro-life but Festersen refused to answer that question on the VIP (and several others pertinent to moral and family concerns). Sharon Chvala won the endorsement of the Nebraska Right to Life PAC.

District 2 -- Ben Gray vs Frank Brown. Neither Democrat candidate answered the survey at all.

District 3 -- Chip Maxwell (Republican) vs Chris Jerram (Democrat). Maxwell is an eloquent, well-informed and experienced leader who has valuable experience in government and pro-life ministry. Jerram refused to answer the questionnaire at all. I've previously written about my high regard for Chip Maxwell here. Chip Maxwell also won the endorsement of the Nebraska Right to Life PAC.

District 4 -- Joseph P. Velasquez (Democrat) vs Garry Gernandt (Democrat). In my opinion, Velasquez' answers were most unimpressive. But Gernandt didn't bother to answer at all.

District 5 -- Jon Blumenthal (Republican) vs Jean Stothert (Republican). Both testify to being pro-life. Both were given the endorsement of the Nebraska Right to Life PAC.

District 6 -- Franklin T. Thompson (Republican) vs Walt Peffer (Republican). Both testify to being pro-life.

District 7 -- Chuck Sigerson (Republican). Pro-life stalwart. He is running unopposed.
